Gro Group

If you ever wondered about those plants that grace our highways and government buildings, wonder no more. There is a group of mentally and physically challenged individuals that can take a stick and nurture it back to health and into a tree. These special people make up the Gro Group.

The Krewe would like to send a huge "Thank you!" to Dana, James, Tracie and Lori for being able to join the Gro Group last week. Everyone was so fortunate that the weather held up until around noon before the skies let out. The Pirates were able to spend quality time with the fabulous Gro Group members, their families, and of course the Kiwanis who make this event happen every year.

This is an event members of our Krewe has done in some form or fashion for over 5 years now. Kathy Wheelen usually heads up the Pirates but this year she was in charge of the FCAT at her school that day. What an honor - again, thank you Kathy for allowing us to enjoy this special event.

The Pirates had such a wonderful time, as always. For those of you who know Robbie, he was unable to make it as he has had health problems this year - and the fact that it was a food-related event was hard for him as he can't eat everything anymore. We did leave some beads for him though.

Tracie's personal buddy Charlie had the time of his life today. Dana became his "Sweetheart", and Tracie became his "Punkin". He was so thrilled to see them, and spent lots of time talking with all of them.

James received a special treat - the lady from Kiwanis had an old Pirate wooden/steel pistol that she insisted he take. She had no idea if it was antique or not, but she was adamant that James take it, literally a few minutes after we arrived. Its a pop gun that has to be at least 40 years old!

Thanks again to all who were able to make it.
