In the News IAAK and the Krewe by Manheim Orlando About Us The Krewe of the Black Swan was formed in 2007 out of a desire to enjoy activities as a group, support friendships and family and also benefit our community with our time and talents. Most members have experiences with other Krewes and enjoy pirate costumes, entertaining others and throw beads during parades. To that end, in a little restaurant in Brandon, a small group gathered to form the foundation of this Krewe. The idea caught on and we soon had enough members to move forward. The hardest part was coming up with a name. After many attempts the majority settled on the Black Swan. The name comes from a European concept that all swans were white. In that context, a Black Swan became a metaphor for “something that could not exist.” In the 17th Century, as Australia was being explored, Black Swans were discovered. This discovery morphed the term to connote a perceived impossibility can actually come to pass. And so it came to pass that we became the Krewe of the Black Swan. |
